Sushi Blowout

Thanks to friends who took me out for my birthday last week, I have a new favorite sushi restaurant—drum roll, please—Sushi Karen in Culver City. The dinner was great—good company 'n conversation. The meal was the ultimate raw fish blowout—sushi and sashimi galore.

Salmon and Yellowtail Sashimi
What is there not to love here?

Red Snapper Sashimi with Lemon salt
Delicate flesh and faintly piquant.

Amberjack Sashimi
Oh, happy mouth! Sweet, buttery goodness.

Monkfish Live Sushi
Hearty sushi—meaty, beefy.

Sea Urchin Sushi
Earthy, musty, and a bit funky—not for the faint of heart.

Scallop Sushi
Sweet from the sea!

Karen Roll—Salmon and Avocado
Love at first bite! I wholeheartedly recommend this roll.

Caterpillar Roll—Eel and Avocado
So, so good—soft, creamy texture.
We also ordered 2 salads.

Salmon Skin Salad
There was a lot of salmon among the greens.

Seaweed Salad
A lot of different textures. Definitely not a boring dish.

And we had tempura, but I accidentally erase the photo during dinner. It was a lot of food, but we finished every bite. Then we got ice cream afterwards—I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! And sushi, too! Yea!
